The agent is the new point of purchase. The question is who it calls to pay.

While others are talking about agentic commerce, we're building it with the customers who'll use it, and on terms that keep them in control.

AI Everywhere
AI Everywhere

A few days ago, an AI agent bought a product on a shopper's behalf and paid for it without ever leaving the conversation. No redirect. No separate payment page. The agent ran on the merchant's own website, and the payment completed right there.

This was our pilot: Nuvei as the execution layer, on Arvato Systems' merchant platform, for the fashion brand Kings and Priests, settled on live Visa rails. The difficult part sat underneath. The payment was authorized across multiple issuer partners in Europe. Getting one brand to sell something isn't hard. Getting issuers across Europe to approve a purchase made by an AI agent is.

The conversation about agentic commerce has filled up with vision. Very little of it has been shown to work end to end. Last week, ours did.

It is also a noisy moment. Vendors are using "agentic commerce" to mean very different things, and merchants are being asked to make architecture decisions on incomplete information. Part of our job, alongside building, is to help our customers separate signal from noise. We can do that because we are speaking from what is in production, not from a slide. Expect us to play that consultative role as loudly as we play the build one.

Open by design, merchants stay in control

Agentic commerce is on a path to roughly a trillion dollars in US transaction volume by 2030. Numbers like that attract the familiar pattern: closed systems and walled gardens that lock merchants in. The ecosystem doesn't need another one. It needs a neutral execution layer, one a merchant integrates once, that keeps working as the agents and the rails evolve.

That is the layer we are building, and our position is simple. We bring it together under one banner, Nuvei Agentic. When an AI agent is ready to pay, it calls Nuvei Agentic, whatever protocol the agent speaks and whatever network the credential rides.

Built around what customers asked us for

This is not a guess at where the market is going. It's what our customers told us they need. Our Global Customer Advisory Board met this week in London, and their first ask was clear: start with first-party agents, the AI experiences merchants run themselves, on their own sites and apps, inside their own customer relationships. Make that work, properly, before anything else. Visa spoke to the same point.

That is what our pilot demonstrated. The agent ran on the merchant's own platform, and the brand kept the customer relationship. First-party first means merchants learn this channel on ground they own. When the public-agent moment arrives, they will be extending something that already works, not starting from scratch.

What we are building: Nuvei Agentic

This is a platform, not a feature you switch on. The hard part was never a single transaction. It is making one integration handle whatever protocol an agent uses, carry verifiable proof that the consumer authorized the purchase, and clear across any network, with fraud models built for how agents actually behave rather than how people do.

So we are building two things. The first is a protocol compatibility layer, so a merchant integrates once and accepts whichever standard an agent uses, whether the Agentic Commerce Protocol, AP2, or the Model Context Protocol, and routes the payment across both Visa's and Mastercard's agentic frameworks rather than betting on one.

The second we call Know Your Agent: the means to identify an agent, validate the consumer's mandate before any money moves, weigh the agent's track record, and keep every action auditable.

Together, they are the merchant's interface to agentic commerce. Who is this agent? Did the consumer authorize this? Can we prove it later? Our industry has never had to ask, because there was always a human at the keyboard. There is no agentic commerce worth having without good answers.

The first live agentic payment is already here.

With Visa, Nuvei completed an AI agent purchase that stayed inside the agent from discovery to payment. Explore the infrastructure behind it and how Nuvei Agentic is being built for the next era of commerce.

Already running at scale

The pieces an agent payment depends on already run at scale today: a Level 1 PCI-certified environment, connections to local schemes and more than 720 payment methods across 200-plus markets, real-time fraud and risk tooling, and deep integrations with the platforms and enterprises that already run payments at scale.

We're extending infrastructure we run every day into a new channel, not promising to build it someday. Because these capabilities reach merchants through the platforms they already use, they can switch them on without re-engineering their payments stack, and without giving up the customer relationship or the merchant-of-record.

A multi-year build, in the open

This is a multi-year build, and we intend to do it in the open. The pilot is the first proof point. Over the second half of this year we will bring protocol compatibility, agent governance, and network certification into production, alongside a developer sandbox for the builders creating these experiences. We will be honest at each step about what is in pilot and what is live.

The companies that shape this infrastructure now will set the terms for the next decade. We mean to be one of them — as the open layer merchants control, not a garden with walls.

That is what Every Payment, Everywhere means in the age of agents. The point of purchase is moving inside the agent. We intend to be the layer it calls.
