Nuvei Voices: Meet Giedre Laukineite

Seven years ago, Giedre joined Nuvei as a Fraud Analytics Team Lead. Today, she's Director of Fraud Prevention - with compliance and underwriting added to a remit that continues to grow. What hasn't changed is her approach: always looking for a smarter process, a better protection, and a more effective way to bring out the best in her team.

A role that never stands still

Giedre's role has evolved significantly over the past year. What began as leading fraud prevention has expanded into a broader, more global remit - spanning compliance and underwriting, working with teams around the world, and identifying opportunities to reduce manual work and drive efficiency across all three areas.

"There's no typical day. It's a mix of problem-solving, collaboration, and finding smarter ways of working. I've always been drawn to that kind of challenge. Understanding what different teams are up against and finding ways to support them is something I find genuinely energising."

Staying ahead with AI

Fraud prevention has always been a moving target - but the pace of change has accelerated sharply. AI has transformed what's possible on both sides of the equation: it's a powerful tool for detection and automation, and an equally powerful one in the hands of those trying to beat the system.

"AI has changed everything. Creating fake identities or bypassing verification is now far easier than it used to be, and new techniques can emerge in days rather than months. Staying ahead means constantly learning, investing in the right tools, and never assuming that what worked yesterday will be enough tomorrow."

Giedre is clear-eyed about what AI can and can't do. Technology handles the repetitive and the routine - but human judgement remains at the centre of how her team operates.

"What we aim to do is automate the tasks that don't need a human, so people can focus on the work that does - analysing patterns, making decisions, applying expertise. That's where people add real value, and that's where we want them spending their time at Nuvei."

Growth built on initiative and optimisation

Giedre's progression from analyst to director didn't happen by waiting for the next opportunity, but rather by creating them. She was always looking for ways to improve how things worked, to question the process, to find a better route.

"I used to joke that my name could be 'optimisation' - I was always looking for ways to do things better. But it wasn't just that. The support I had from my managers made a huge difference. They trusted me, gave me space to learn, and encouraged me to go beyond what my role technically required. That combination of initiative and support is what really drives growth."

A culture built on openness

Seven years in, what stands out most to Giedre about Nuvei isn't a single project or milestone - it's the environment. Nuvei's truly global and diverse make-up creates something genuinely distinctive for her: a place where people feel comfortable sharing ideas, and where that openness feeds directly into how the business innovates.

"In the Vilnius office, people are approachable and always willing to help. There's a real generosity with knowledge and expertise. That kind of environment makes it much easier to learn quickly, which matters a lot in a field that moves as fast as ours does."

Life beyond fraud prevention

Away from work, Giedre recharges outdoors - forest walks and mountain trails. She's also a passionate cook who has recently thrown herself into sourdough baking, experimenting with different flours and techniques with the same methodical curiosity she brings to her day job. She finds it a good way to switch off and… another process to optimise.
