Nuvei Voices: Meet Adam Hunt

Director, Payment Solutions, United Kingdom

When Adam Hunt joined Nuvei, payments was a new industry for him. Since then, he has progressed from Solutions Engineer to Lead Solutions Engineer and has recently stepped into a new role as Director, Payment Solutions. His journey has been shaped by a determination to understand more than the task immediately in front of him - looking at how products, processes and teams connect to create the right outcome for customers. Along the way, he has worked on major strategic projects, led the Solutions Engineering team across Europe and developed deep expertise in marketplaces, platforms and partner integrations.

Learning the payments industry

Before joining Nuvei, Adam worked in end-to-end eCommerce implementation, covering everything from product catalogues and pricing to order management, customer service and online marketplaces. Payments were part of those solutions, but they had never been his core area of expertise.

Joining Nuvei meant learning a complex and constantly evolving industry, spanning different products, payment methods, customer needs and regional requirements.

“The Solutions team works across such a broad range of products, customers and markets that there is always something new to learn. I quickly realised that understanding the integration alone was not enough - I needed to understand how everything fitted together to create the right solution for the customer.”

That broader perspective enabled Adam to contribute beyond the traditional scope of his role, take on increasingly complex projects and build a deeper understanding of the business.

Turning complexity into clear solutions

Adam has spent much of his time at Nuvei working on large, strategic and often complex customer projects. For him, successful solution design depends on understanding far more than the technical integration.

Reporting, operational workflows, underwriting and compliance requirements can all influence how a solution is designed, implemented and ultimately experienced by the customer.

“Integration is only one piece of the puzzle. You need to understand the complete solution, how each element affects the others and what that means for the customer.”

Being able to communicate that understanding clearly has been equally important throughout his career.

“When you can simplify a complex solution and help people understand the bigger picture, it becomes much easier to move discussions forward, make decisions and keep projects on track.”

Learning to lead

Over the past year, Adam took on his first formal management role, leading the Solutions Engineering team across Europe while continuing to manage his own customer projects.

Alongside one-to-ones, hiring and supporting the team, he had to become more disciplined about managing his time, setting priorities and delegating effectively.

“You cannot do everything at once, so you need to understand what requires immediate attention, where the greatest risks sit and what can reasonably wait.”

Delegation was another important shift. Moving into leadership meant learning to achieve results through others rather than trying to take responsibility for everything himself. The experience also helped Adam define the kind of leader he wants to be.

“My natural style is to give people ownership and the space to manage their work. But leadership is never one-size-fits-all. You need to recognise when someone would benefit from more guidance and when it is better to step back and let them succeed independently.”

Shaping the future of payment solutions

In his new role as Director, Payment Solutions, Adam is working closely with internal teams and external partners to help shape how Nuvei scopes, implements and maintains a growing range of payment technologies.

This includes alternative payment methods, orchestration capabilities and other innovative solutions that continue to expand Nuvei’s offering.

“New payment methods, technologies and customer expectations are constantly emerging. The challenge is not simply to keep pace, but to identify where the next opportunities are and make sure we are ready to support them.”

For Adam, bringing a new payment solution to market is only the beginning. It must also be implemented in a way that delivers a strong customer experience and works effectively for the teams responsible for supporting it.

“A new payment solution only creates value when it is designed and implemented in a way that works for the customer and for the operational teams behind it.”

He is particularly looking forward to collaborating with Product, APM Partnerships and teams across Nuvei, as well as external partners, to bring new solutions to market successfully.

Supporting marketplaces as they scale

Adam specialises in marketplaces, platforms and partner integrations - an area that covers a wide range of business models and continues to evolve alongside regulation, technology and customer expectations.

While every platform is different, they share a common purpose: bringing buyers and sellers together. That creates more complex payment requirements than traditional eCommerce, including seller onboarding, payment acceptance, operational processes and payouts.

“Marketplaces need the flexibility to support different payment methods, partners and regions, while also having the infrastructure to grow as their business scales.”

One of the most significant trends Adam is seeing is the growing importance of orchestration. By connecting different partners and capabilities across onboarding, payments and payouts, platforms can create greater flexibility, scalability and resilience while reducing their reliance on any single route or provider.

“As platforms expand internationally, orchestration becomes increasingly important. It gives them the ability to adapt, scale and deliver a more consistent experience across every stage of the payment journey.”

Building a career in payments

Adam’s advice for anyone beginning a career at Nuvei or in payments is to embrace the fact that there will always be more to learn.

“Your existing knowledge is valuable, but your willingness to learn, ask questions and make an impact can be even more important.”

He encourages people to understand not only their own role, but also the teams, products and processes that connect with it. The broader that understanding becomes, the more effectively they can contribute.

He also believes it is important not to be overwhelmed by the complexity of the industry.

“Payments can be complicated, and it is easy to over-engineer things. Focus on keeping things as clear and straightforward as possible for yourself, your colleagues and your customers.”

For Adam, clarity does not mean removing complexity. It means making that complexity easier for others to understand, navigate and act upon.

Life beyond work

Outside of Nuvei, Adam is kept busy by his young family, including a four-month-old son and a daughter who is almost two.

Maintaining a healthy balance between work and family is important to him, and Nuvei’s flexible and remote working approach has enabled him to spend more time with them throughout the week.

“The flexibility at Nuvei makes a real difference. It gives me more time with my family in the mornings, evenings and at weekends, which is incredibly valuable at this stage of their lives.”

When he gets the opportunity, Adam also enjoys exercising and spending time outdoors. Stepping away from the laptop helps him clear his mind, recharge and return to work with renewed energy.
