Lucas Carty has quickly made his mark in payments. From starting as a Sales Development Representative to recently being promoted to Business Development Associate, Lucas is driven by curiosity, persistence, and building meaningful connections - qualities that fuel both his growth and Nuvei's success.

Pursuing payments

Lucas's path to Nuvei wasn't planned, but it felt right the moment he discovered it.

"I was exploring sales opportunities in fintech, and the payments space felt like the right fit. When I came across Nuvei, something just clicked - the energy, the pace, and the chance to make an impact. Being Canadian, I also loved that it's a company proud of its Canadian roots."

He applied for an SDR role, eager to leverage his previous sales experience while learning and growing in the payments world. "From day one, I felt empowered to contribute, take ownership, and push myself. It's the kind of environment where your ideas are valued, and you can make a real impact quickly." That mindset has stayed with him as he's expanded his scope, taken on more responsibility, and driven tangible results for our customers.

Building relationships that matter

For Lucas, sales is about more than product knowledge - it’s about connecting authentically with customers.

"I used to be nervous on calls," he admits. "Over time, I learned to bring my personality into conversations, read client cues, and lean on my product knowledge. That's how you build relationships that stick."

At Nuvei, Lucas has grown from making his first nervous cold calls to closing career-defining deals. A standout moment came when he turned a challenging prospect into a client. "It took persistence across multiple calls, but seeing the deal through from first conversation to onboarding was incredibly rewarding. It reinforced that relationship-building - not just selling - drives success."

Mentors, colleagues, and hands-on experiences at events have all played a key role in Lucas's growth, helping him refine his skills and gain confidence along the way.

Lucas contributes directly to Nuvei's growth by onboarding new clients and ensuring an exceptional customer experience. "Sales and marketing work together to expand the brand and reach new customers. Collaborating and watching the company evolve has been really rewarding."

Outside of work, Lucas prioritizes a healthy work-life balance. Skiing, sports, and time with friends and family keep him energized. "Disconnecting and enjoying activities outside of work helps me stay motivated and inspired. From Tremblant to Mount Sutton, the slopes of Montreal are my perfect reset."
