How Paysend enhanced local payment capabilities with Nuvei

The challenge  

The Paysend team wanted to strengthen their payment method offerings in several key European markets. Poland, for example, is one of Paysend's largest funding markets. While card-based funding was available, many Polish customers preferred using Blik, one of Poland’s most popular payment methods. Paysend risked lost revenue and limited adoption by not supporting popular local methods like this for their European customers. The challenge was to integrate more alternative payment methods (APMs) quickly, without any lengthy technical hurdles or disruption to existing user flows.

The solution  

Nuvei’s API integration enabled Paysend to quickly start supporting several popular local APMs including Blik in Poland, IDeal in the Netherlands and MBway in Portugal – crucially, without requiring local bank accounts.  

Thanks to Nuvei ‘plug-and-play' solutions, Paysend launched a rapid rollout in under six months. This industry-leading timeline minimized service disruption, compared to the typical ‘one year or more’ process. Nuvei supports integrations to 700 more local APMs, which Paysend can opt to integrate with easily, to continue building on their growth trajectory.  

The results  

Since going live with Nuvei, Paysend have reaped the benefits of expanding their suite of payment methods. For example, since the Blik integration in February 2024, Paysend has achieved a 43% annual growth rate in Poland and is processing $10 million in transaction volume per month. The solution reduced checkout friction, increased conversion rates, and solidified Paysend’s position in the Polish market. Paysend intend to expand their APM offering with Nuvei following this initial launch, safe in the knowledge they won’t face long delays or require technical overhauls.
